Not for me – I originally wanted to be a pilot or a PE teacher!! I was too short to be a pilot and as I loved problem solving and working in teams I started looking at engineering.

Yes! As I already said answering another question, when I was very young I thought I would do chemistry, but then I discovered physics. I then always thought I would become a theorist, but it wasn’t until the end of my first degree that I began to move towards particle physics. Even then when I started a masters I was very interested in gravitation and cosmology, but I had some excellent teachers on high-energy particle physics and that’s where I ended up.

No, I don’t think I really knew what I wanted to do when I was younger. Science was my best subject at school which is why I kept on studying it 🙂

I never really know what I wanted to do, at one point I wanted to be a poet and then an astronaut! I found that I enjoyed science practicals at school and so felt like it was a good subject to continue studying.

I was always good at science at school so guessed I would end up doing something with science involved, but I didn’t even know you could have a job doing what I do until I got to University

When I was in primary school I was sure I was going to be a ballet dancer… but once I realised that wasn’t going to happen I wanted to be a vet, then an archaeologist! In the end I followed science because I really enjoyed it and hoped it would lead to a good career!

Originally I wanted to be a PE teacher, I loved all sports, especially football. It was not until I visited Kenya that I realised I wanted to work with or helping animals. I had always enjoyed science but never thought I would be a scientist, but now I cannot see me being anything else.

I wanted to be a scientist from about the middle of senior school because I was really passionate about protecting nature. I decided I wanted to study the environment more so that I could help understand and protect nature in my future job. When I was in primary school I wanted to be a farmer because I loved animals! I would still like to have some animals one day in the future.
