Hi JĂșliaK! Good question. We study lots of different metals (over 50!), but we are especially interested in the types of metals that are bad to drink. Metals like lead, arsenic, mercury are all bad to drink if there is too much of them in the water. We also study metals that can tell us something about where the metal pollution is coming from. So to do that we study metals that are common in rocks, like magnesium, calcium, iron, sodium and potassium.
