Kind of! Generally I collect samples from the volcano and then take them home and put the in the X-ray scanner to understand their internal structure. Sometimes I take those samples and reheat them back to magmatic temperatures and do the imaging while they are molten. Other times I “bake” my own rocks using mineral powders and crystals so I know exactly what is in the samples before I do the experiments.
