• Question: Do you think a student wanting to apply to be a chemical engineer/medicine needs a wide variety of A-levels? Do you think just doing Biology, Chemistry and Maths is fine or would you recommend doing as essay based subject as well?

      Hi Alisha,

Biology, Chemistry, and Maths is a solid base to be able to do lots of science courses at university. I’ve had some friends take PE/English lit as an AS level before going on to do medicine/engineering. They did took these as “fun” courses as its what they liked to learn about.

It is worth taking a look at some university entry requirements to double-check or talking to the careers advisor at your school.

At the end of the day, you’ll have to spend alot of time learning these subjects good to consider what you’d enjoy more too!

      Best of luck!
      Katie

My first thought would be to speak to a careers advisor or look to the entry criteria for the courses you want to do. I would imagine however that the three sciences along with maths and english would likely cover all bases for entry

I also agree with Katie and Martin. The best place to start would be to have a look at the entry requirements of some uni courses which interest you and think about taking the subjects that are required for them. If you enjoy doing an essay based subjects as well, you could think about taking this as a fourth subject for fun, the skills will still be very useful whatever you end up choosing!
